The girl opened her eyes, only to see a swirl of colors whirling past her. She was spinning. Bright colorful ribbons of light danced around and around. A rush of air cascaded over her skin causing goosebumps to rise. Where was she? Slowly the ribbons began to unwind and reveal their true faces. The ribbons were none other than light bulbs. Red, green, blue, and yellow. They were all lined up in perfect unison, showing off the signs they belonged to. Balloon Darts, Test Your Strength, and Ice Cream, they read. Was she at a carnival? It felt as if she had just been in one. Almost as if it were just yesterday. Wait…yesterday? What did she do yesterday? Try as she might, she couldn’t remember a thing. Closing her eyes, she could hear a gun shot and see a small blue glow…but she couldn’t remember why. Who was she? Where was she? The girl tried to stand, but her head came in contact with something hard. Looking up, she saw a wooden horse looking down at her. She rubbed her head as she realized where she was. She was on a merry-go-round. The carousel began to slow down. As she looked ahead, she saw a dark figure standing before the ride. Each time the ride went around, the figure got closer. Something inside her told her to run. Something told her it was dangerous. Go back inside. Go back to sleep. Finally, the ride came to a complete stop. The figure turned out to be a man looking down at her. Or at least…she thought he was a man. Did men always have horns? Or red skin? Or white clown makeup? He offered his hand down to her and smiled in a friendly way.
“My dear Wick…I’ve been expecting you.”
